FAQ's About Medicare Supplement plans in Colorado

Q. I Got a Letter from CMS saying that my coverage is being canceled (due for example to a Service Area Reduction)... What Should I Do? 

 A. If you received a letter from CMS or your plan telling you that your coverage is being dropped, you should call us immediately. We can compare all of the plans in your area and help you find the right coverage at the lowest possible price. 

Please keep in mind that 2010 in Colorado is different than past years. There are many PFFS plans (Private Fee for Service Plans) that are being reduced or dropped (especially in rural areas).

You also should know that in 2010, the only "Open Enrollment" period will be from Nov. 15th - Dec. 31st. If you receive a letter on October 2nd, you will have what is called a "Special Election Period." In this case, you can enroll in a new plan beginning October 3rd- January 31st of 2011. Q. Why is there so much difference in the price between Med Sup plans in Colorado?

A. All Colorado Medigap plans are "Standardized". This simply means that all insurance companies offering a Medicare Supplement Plan F in Colorado have to offer exactly the same benefits. The only real difference is the price. Some insurance companies charge higher premiums than other companies for the same benefits. This is why it is so important to shop around.

Q. Can I be turned down because of a pre-existing medical condition?

A. If you are in a guaranteed issue period (i.e., you qualify for Medicare and are losing group benefits, or you are just turning 65, or you have been receiving disability benefits for 2 years), you can not be turned down for any reason, except End Stage Renal Disease (kidney failure). If that applies to you, then you will be covered by a different program.

Q. Will I be covered if I travel to another state?

A. If you choose a Medicare Supplement plan, you will have the freedom to go to any doctor or hospital that accept Medicare. With the right coverage, you may even be covered for emergencies while traveling in foreign countries.
